...focusing on continuous improvement
of the acoustic, fire and structural
properties of our building system.
Henley are the sole users of market leading licensed technology designed as part of our system, proof our continued commitment to excellence in research and development. This continuous process drives innovation in all areas of the business focusing on buildling better buildings, that are more efficient to construct, yet provide a more satisfying experience during the construction phase and to the end user.
An extensive program of R&D has been required over the development of the Henley Building Systems. They are discussed in more detail on our innovation page, but in summary they have included;
- Unique "3" section R&D testing Warwick University
- Mig brazing testing Warwick University
- Load testing of Henley floor and ceiling cassette
- Conceptual design of HBS system & design of prototype 3 storey building.
- Prototype design and manufacture of 6 different types of HBS floor cassette
- Prototype design and manufacture of different types of wall/resilient bar/plasterboard combinations.
- Prototype design and manufacture of a flat table casting bed for manufacture of the individual concrete floor cassettes prototype.
- Development of special high strength fire resisting concrete and structural concrete that was self compacting and had a green carbon footprint.
- Fire testing at Warrington Fire Research for the new HBS concrete composite cassette system tested to BS476, part 20 (achieved 4 hours)
- Fire testing at Warrington Fire Research for load bearing height gauge steel wall panels with HBS resilient bars and a variety of plasterboard types and insulation combinations.
- Acoustic testing on the prototype building by Bureau Veritas in order to check the performance of the various types of floor cassettes, wall construction against the performance requirements of the Building Regulations (statutory requirement) for residential buildings.
- The development and manufacture of laser cut 3D jigs to make steel assemblies (floors/walls) to tolerances of ± 0.5mm over a 6m length. These jigs were an essential requirement that makes the Henley product unique and enables extremely tight tolerances to be achieved on site.
All new developments undergo rigorous prototyping to verify the design assumptions and solve problems before they reach site to eliminate re-work and compliance issues. A three storey prototype building exists at our Market Harborough site specifically to facilitate on going research and development and for training of site operatives in the installation and erection of the HBS system.
